Why visit Kumarakom?

  • Kumarakom Bird Sanctuary

    Sprawled over 14 acres on the southern banks of the Kavanar River, this bird sanctuary is a paradise for nature lovers, and is home to a diverse variety of bird species. Take a walk through the lush green forests and spot birds like waterfowl, egret, heron, cormorant, and many more. Visitors can also opt for cruise rides and boat trips to soak in the natural beauty.

  • Houseboat Cruise

    A traditional houseboat cruise will give tourists a true Kerala experience! Since Kerala’s backwaters include 1500 km of water canals with lakes, rivers, and lagoons, an important means of transport is the houseboat.

  • Vembanad Lake

    Vembanad Lake is considered the largest and the longest lake in India. Tourists have the opportunity to soak in the pristine beauty of the backwaters and get a slice of local Keralan life as they indulge in soothing boat rides and bird-watching tours at Vembanad Lake.

  • Kumarakom Beach

    A hot spot for adventure junkies, this tranquil beach is located on the banks of the Vembanad Lake and offers many exciting water sports adventures. Visitors have the opportunity to try various outdoor activities such as water skiing, windsurfing, parasailing, and boating.

  • Thirunakkara Mahadeva Temple

    Dedicated to Lord Shiva, this 16th century temple was built by the erstwhile Thekkumkoor King and houses unique sculptures and deities that are centuries old.

    Considered one of the 108 revered Shivalayas in Kerala, the temple attracts visitors due to its stunning murals depicting the stories of Shiva and Dashavathara.

  • Aruvikkuzhi Waterfalls

    Cascading down from a height of 100 feet, this ideal picnic spot is surrounded by rubber plantations and breathtaking views.

  • Pathiramanal Island

    Surrounded by Vembanad Lake, this beautiful island nestled amidst emerald-green backwaters and lush coconut groves is a haven for nature and bird lovers.

    Visitors can spend the day picnicking here amidst serene surroundings, and can even spot rare bird species like Pintail Ducks, Night Heron, Cormorant while enjoying boat rides.
